Something that plagues many families is the known thing that we call cancer. No one is exempt from it either. It hits all ages. Cancer affects all genders and all nationalities. This is the hard truth that we face about this medical condition. Therefore, many families of those with cancer might wonder what there is that they should know.
When it comes to treatment, there are a few things that might be an option that the doctor will discuss with you. There is radiation where they zap your body with it. They also have what is called chemotherapy where drugs are given through an IV. There might be a way that they can surgically remove it depending how much of it there is and where it is. Sometimes, a person who has cancer might need a bone marrow transplant.
Some aren’t sure what cancer is. This is where there is what is called a tumor. This affects your immune system and you find that a person who has cancer has a hard time fighting off illnesses.
There are many who want to know what causes cancer. Many who are diagnosed with any form of cancer question what they might have done differently so this wouldn’t’ have happened to them. For some, it’s a way of life. For instance, if you smoke, you can get lung cancer. There are others that it runs in their family. Then, for some, it might be what they are exposed to like excessive time in the sun can cause skin cancer. You will find that cancer is not contagious.
Now, they diagnose cancer and then place you in stages. Stage one is the first stage and in most cases, if you are diagnosed in stage one of cancer, the chances of healing you are great. Then those stages go all the way up to stage four. At stage four, doctors will tell you an estimated amount of item you can expect, but many find that the time is normally shorter when they tell you this. Those who have terminal cancer which would be stage three or four might go into what is called hospice.
You will need to see what is called an oncologist. This is a doctor who specializes in cancer. This is the doctor who will be in charge of getting you treatment. They will monitor your progress and discuss other issues with you. If you are successful, you will find that you will go into what is called remission. This is when you are cancer free.
Some cancers have a prognosis which isn’t good at all. One of those types of cancers is throat cancer. Therefore, they are still doing studies to find a cure. Everyone is waiting for a cure to cancer. The American Cancer Society gives money to try to fund researchers the things they need in order to try to find that cure. They have many new drugs that come out on the market so there is hope that they are only steps away from finding that cure.
